Finances

Compaid’s income comes from a range of different sources. Some services, such as the Kent Karrier transport scheme, are contracted by Kent County Council, which pays an annual contribution to enable us to offer heavily subsidised fares for passengers. In a similar way, our Out and About dial a ride services in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge and Malling are funded by the National Lottery.

Other services need alternative funding, with voluntary income supporting our non- contracted transport service, as well as our digital skills training from our centre in Paddock Wood and in the wider community. We are grateful to the organisations and donors who enable us to deliver these services at low or no cost to beneficiaries.

Many of our service users pay for their support through Direct Payments from Kent County Council and other local authorities, with others being funded directly or by other charities. We support many of our beneficiaries, particularly in our Training Centre to receive support to manage their eligible benefits which enable them to access services as they wish.

Voluntary income is also needed to cover our core overhead costs, such as our offices and administrative staff, as well as providing reserves to invest in new developments for our service delivery and fundraising. Our Trustees ensure each year that the charity has sufficient funds to ensure its future stability, and that it can meet any financial obligations from suppliers.

In the last financial year, 2022/23, our total income of £1,395,639 came from the following sources:

  • 71% Fees for Services Delivered
  • 29% Voluntary Income

Our expenditure of £1,340,068 was on the following areas:

  • 17% Training Services
  • 79% Transport Services
  • 1% Other Services
  • 3% Fundraising Costs
