NFU Mutual supports our post pandemic work
We are delighted to receive a donation from the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund as part of their national emergency campaign to support charities that impact our local community, providing both emergency support and to help build long-term resilience. This is fantastic news and we would like to say a HUGE thank you to NFU for their support in a week when we are thrilled to be opening the doors again of our digital skills training centre in Paddock Wood after what has been one of the most difficult years any of us have had to face. As the country emerges from the pandemic, the sense of purpose and enthusiasm among our staff and volunteers to welcome back clients to familiar surroundings has never been stronger. The pandemic has shown how we often take for granted how easy online communication has become, which is why our work is so important to support vulnerable people to learn the skills to get online and help to reduce increasing levels of isolation and loneliness which can in turn have a major impact on their long term health.
Compaid becomes accredited Living Wage employer
Compaid is celebrating its accreditation as a Living Wage employer by the Living Wage Foundation. This marks a commitment by the charity to pay staff an hourly rate no lower than the Living Wage Foundation’s recommended pay for out of London employees. That rate is currently £9.50 an hour, almost 7% higher than the Government’s National Living Wage. This step most benefits the charity’s front line staff delivering digital skills training and transport services to disabled, older and other vulnerable people across Kent. These staff members have continued to support service users throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, and have demonstrated commitment and compassion towards those they serve. Compaid awarded REVAMP Quality Mark
Kent based disability charity Compaid has today been awarded the REVAMP Quality Mark, which recognises excellence in the use and management of volunteers. The charity, which provides digital skills training and accessible transport for disabled people across Kent, has more than 40 volunteers who help out each week, either supporting adult learners at its Training Centre in Paddock Wood, or driving one of its accessible minibuses in the local area. The REVAMP award was presented by Alex Krutnik, who administers the Quality Mark at local infrastructure consortium Stronger Kent Communities. Mr Krutnik praised the content of Compaid’s award application, reflecting the importance that the charity places on volunteers. Compaid’s recent Social Impact Report found that volunteers gave more over 9,500 hours last year, at a value of over £75,000. Stephen Elsden, Chief Executive at Compaid said: “This award is a credit to our fantastic volunteers who give up their time every week to help disabled and other vulnerable people overcome their social, digital and economic exclusion. It is also testament to our committed staff who work so hard to recruit new volunteers and ensure that everyone has a positive and rewarding experience at Compaid.”
