Outreach services

Do you need advice regarding accessible computer equipment, suitable software, or outreach support?

Our staff work throughout Kent and the surrounding area providing assessments, training and advice in appropriate assistive technology and software. Computer based activities provide creative and recreational opportunities for individuals or groups either at home, in residential or hospital environments.  These activities include internet training, rehabilitation, computer art, family history, keyboard training and creative writing.

Following an assessment for an individual needs, support may be provided at home, or we may recommend attendance at the Activities Centre subject to availability of funding.

We also provide support for disabled people in other residential homes and day centres, such as Chipstead Lake in Sevenoaks.

One outreach client says: “Prior to the stroke, my computer skills were zero.  Since Compaid’s lessons, I have progressed rapidly. I am now able to email family and friends overseas, whereas before, I couldn’t speak on the phone to them. My horizons have been expanded.”

We also work directly with professional clinicians to provide personal assessments.

This service offers advice on a wide range of subjects including the following:

Computer Accessories
Such as mouse alternatives, keyboards, touchscreens, switches.

Accessible Software
Including voice recognition, on screen keyboards, eyegaze, simple Windows solutions.

Communication Aids
Both Hi-Tech and Lo-Tech, for example, Lightwriters and eye gaze boards.

Soundbeam
Soundbeam is based upon movement and sound. In essence, the principle of the equipment is that any kind of movement made, breaks an invisible beam produced by the "sensors", and sound is produced. We can transport Soundbeam to any location for immediate use with individuals or groups of people.
